under the volcano, where pits the fire
the slow breathing forming the tide reaching the shore
warmed by the blood and the body
the lava flows from the temper
runs down the drought toward the wetness
calls the quenching of the crystals and the glass
makes the sound you mistook for the whales
and the waves crushing onto the stacks
but was the sirens mourning
never a cry has made such beautiful melody
slowly forming the pearls and the beads
of the necklace she wishes you were wearing
she envies you, the jealousy
untouched by the sun
she forgot the warmth
now only knowing the abyss while
from the sand to the land you lay in the warm vesicle
teasing the fossils of what used to be her sorrow.
do not let the earth eating woman cry
as she might take everything from you
for you took her bones
as if it was granted
as if the swim could be wave free
as you reached for the hair to stroke
when she styled it with fire and stones
as the scorching tears of fear and fury
rolled down the mountain and onto your feet
that you left undressed
because you were so sure
the earth eating woman
could not hurt such gentle skin
as you’re playing with the weathered piece of her blood as you hurt her and dove into the wet chest.
have you heard of the curse
she will cast on the ones that won’t listen
the ones that will take for granted
the consent they did not ask for
and carry back to their home
the fragile parts of her body
so delicate
yet so threatening
have you heard of the goddess
she who shapes the sacred land
she who protects and cares
she will share her wrath with you who caused her despair.
